Graduation



How to Apply 

  • Students planning to graduate are required to complete the Graduation Application form with the assistance of their advisor.
  • Students must submit the completed application to the Registrar’s Office.
  • The application deadline is 4-6 weeks prior to the end of a student’s planned graduating semester. Actual deadline dates are posted on the College’s Academic Calendar.
  • A student may receive their diploma after the end of any semester in which all degree requirements are fulfilled. The diploma award date will be posted with the current or near future semester graduation date.
  • In the event a student submits their application past the semester deadline when their requirements were satisfied, the diploma award date will not be posted retroactively.

Students who wish to participate in the commencement ceremony must purchase their cap and gown before the posted order deadline. Cap and gown orders are completed through the Herff Jones vendor website and can be picked up in the campus bookstore during designated pick-up dates

Graduation Requirements: Associate of Arts or Science

All completed disciplinary distinctions will be represented on the student’s academic transcript. A two-year degree will be awarded to students who meet the following requirements:

  1. All Admission Requirements must be satisfied ( i.e. RHSC requirements, All official transcripts from Prior colleges must be on file,etc)
  2. A candidate must complete ENGL 1101  course requirement for Area A1 of the core curriculum with a minimum grade of C or higher or must demonstrate proficiency on the CLEP test. A candidate must complete ENGL 1102  course requirement for Area A1 of the core curriculum with a minimum grade of C or higher.
  3. A candidate must complete mathematic course requirement for Area A2 of the core curriculum with a minimum grade of ‘C’ or higher.
  4. Satisfy core curriculum Areas A-E (42 credit hours) and all Area F requirements specific to the major (18-21 credit hours hours).
  5. Satisfy the institutional requirements of one health and two physical education/first aid courses (4 hours).
  6. Complete requirements for the History and Constitution of the United States and Georgia as required by the State of Georgia. They may be met by completing POLS 1101 - American Government  and one of the two Survey of U.S. History courses, HIST 2111 /HIST 2112 .
  7. Must satisfy Regents’ Reading and Writing Skills Requirements with a grade of A, B or C in ENGL 1101   & ENGL 1102 .
  8. Must meet the residency requirement by earning a minimum of 17 semester hours at East Georgia State College for the associate degree.
  9. Must demonstrate proficiency in oral communication by completing COMM 1110 - Public Speaking  or COMM 1010 - Intercultural Communication  or ENGL 1104 - Introduction to Technical Communication  in Area B of the core curriculum.
  10. Must have a minimum 2.0 graduation GPA.
  11. The formal approval of faculty.

NOTE: Courses used to satisfy required high school curriculum (RHSC) requirements may be used to satisfy graduation requirements.

Graduation Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Biology

The following requirements must be satisfied by all students seeking the baccalaureate degree:

  1. All Admission Requirements must be satisfied ( i.e. RHSC requirements, All official transcripts from Prior colleges must be on file,etc)
  2. All candidates must have an overall, minimum graduation GPA of 2.50.
  3. All candidates must complete all degree requirements
  4. All candidates must take the Educational Testing Service (ETS) by all senior level biology majors.
  5. Degree candidates may earn credit by correspondence, or through transient credit, but not more than ten hours in the major discipline and not more than thirty total hours of credit earned in this manner will count toward degree requirements.
  1. A candidate must complete ENGL 1101  with a grade of C or higher or must demonstrate proficiency on the CLEP test. A baccalaureate degree candidate must earn a grade of C or higher in ENGL 1102 .
  2. Must satisfy Regents’ Reading and Writing Skills Requirements with a grade of A, B or C in ENGL 1101  & ENGL 1102 .
  3. A minimum grade of ‘C’ is required in all science and math courses.
  4. Must complete 124 semester hours.
  5. To remain in the program and to progress, a student will maintain a 2.0 overall GPA on all coursework.
  6. Meet the residency requirement by earning a minimum of 31 semester hours at East Georgia State College.

Graduation Requirements: Bachelor of Arts in Fire and Emergency Services Administration (FESA)

The following requirements must be satisfied by all students seeking the baccalaureate degree in FESA:

  1. All Admission Requirements must be satisfied ( i.e. RHSC requirements, All official transcripts from Prior colleges must be on file,etc)
  2. All candidates must have a minimum graduation GPA of 2.00.
  3. All candidates must complete all degree requirements
  4. Degree candidates may earn credit by correspondence, or through transient credit, but not more than ten hours in the major discipline and not more than thirty total hours of credit earned in this manner will count toward degree requirements.
  5. A candidate must complete ENGL 1101  with a grade of ‘C’ or higher or must demonstrate proficiency on the CLEP test. A baccalaureate degree candidate must earn a grade of C or higher in ENGL 1102 .
  6. Must satisfy Regents’ Reading and Writing Skills Requirements with a grade of A, B or C in ENGL 1101  & ENGL 1102 .
  7. Official transcripts from prior colleges must be on file.
  8. Must complete 124 semester hours.
  9. To remain in the program and to progress, a student will maintain a 2.0 overall GPA on all coursework.
  10. Meet the residency requirement by earning a minimum of 31 semester hours at East Georgia State College.

Graduation Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) RN-BSN Bridge Program

The following requirements must be satisfied by all students seeking the baccalaureate degree in Nursing:

  1. All Admission Requirements must be satisfied ( i.e. RHSC requirements, All official transcripts from Prior colleges must be on file,etc)
  2. All candidates must have a minimum cumulative and nursing coursework GPA of 2.50.
  3. All candidates must complete all degree requirements
  4. All candidates must satisfy all pre-requisite coursework prior to admission to the program, as follows: 
BIOL 1103  / BIOL 1103L  
BIOL 1104  / BIOL 1104L  OR
Introductory Biology I/II OR
BIOL 1107  / BIOL 1108   Principles of Biology I/II
BIOL 2511   & BIOL 2512    Anatomy and Physiology I & II
BIOL 2611   Microbiology
MATH 1401   Elementary Statistics
PSYC 2103   Human Growth & Development
  1. Proof of an unrestricted registered professional nursing license that allows the student to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia.
  2. A candidate must complete ENGL 1101   with a grade of ‘C’ or higher or must demonstrate proficiency on the CLEP test. A baccalaureate degree candidate must earn a grade of ‘C’ or higher in ENGL 1102 .
  3. Must satisfy Regents’ Reading and Writing Skills requirements by earning a grade of ‘C’ or higher in ENGL 1101  and ENGL 1102 .
  4. A minimum grade of ‘C’ is required in all prerequisite courses as well as all science, math and nursing courses.
  5. Official transcripts from previous colleges must be on file.
  6. Must complete 120 semester hours.
  7. To remain in and progress within the nursing program, a student must maintain a 2.50 overall GPA on all coursework.
  8. To remain in and progress within the nursing program, a student will maintain satisfactory performance on clinical evaluations.
  9. Meet the residency requirements by earning a minimum of 30 semester hours at East Georgia State College.
  10. A candidate must complete the required application for graduation by deadline.

Graduation Exercises

Degrees are formally conferred at the close of the fall semester (December) and spring semester (May). Students who complete all requirements for their degree by the end of the summer semester are invited to participate in our fall commencement ceremony to receive their diploma.

Summer graduation candidates may be eligible to participate in the spring semester ceremony.  Please refer to the institution’s policy for commencement participation policy posted on the President’s Policies and Procedures webpage (here).

Requirements for a Second Degree

Students may be awarded more than one Associate of Arts or Science degree with disciplinary distinction provided the student meets all of the requirements. Since the institution offers three baccalaureate degree programs, a student may elect to enroll in one of these programs following the completion of an Associate degree; However, a student may enter the RN-BSN program only after completion of an associate degree in nursing pre-licensure program and attainment of an unencumbered RN license.

Graduation with Honors

A graduation candidate who has taken a minimum of 25 semester hours at EGSC and who has an overall cumulative average of no less than 3.5 will graduate cum laude. A student with a final cumulative average of 3.8 or better will graduate magna cum laude and a student with a 3.9 or better cumulative average will graduate summa cum laude.
